OURTOWN is a comprehensive look at a beautiful small coastal town with a
population of 2041. In the fall of 2005 Wal-Mart announced that they wanted to build a Supercenter there. The town has one red light. A Supercenter would have literally had a larger footprint than the whole downtown as it exists today. Of course this set off an uproar. Out of the din two young IVY League-educated mothers emerged to lead the battle against Wal-Mart. It becomee a compelling story about how effective and empowering local grassroots movements can be.
